Cisco URB
Cisco Ultra Reliable Wireless Backhaul (CURWB) is the sort of technology you need when your wireless network has to work reliably with no roaming drops.
If you have an industrial network, Cisco URB provides the sort of guarantee for device roaming that Wi-Fi can't match - at a price point much cheaper than Private 5G.

What is Cisco URB?
- Wi-Fi Diagnostic Survey: Onsite survey to measure the current state of the RF
- End Client Debug: Walk around with a client onsite and debug the roaming events
- Configuration Review: Check over the configuration of the network and compare to known best practice
When do you use CURWB?
Cisco URB is designed for industrial environments that require:
- Ultra‑low latency
- Zero (or near‑zero) packet loss
- Seamless roaming at speed
- High availability with redundant paths
While there's a lot of use cases that CURWB is suitable for, some of the most common are:
- Industrial automation (AGVs, AMRs, PLC connectivity)
- Ports and logistics (cranes, container terminals, vehicle automation)
- Mining (autonomous vehicles, remote operations)
- Rail and transport (train‑to‑trackside communications)
- Smart cities & campuses (PTP/PTMP wireless backhaul)
- Outdoor / harsh environments where fibre is impractical or impossible
Cisco URWB is specifically built for moving assets and safety‑critical systems. CURWB is about as close as you can get to fibre like connectivity over a wireless medium and with the make-before-break roaming is very suitable for moving assets - even high-speed ones like trains:

CURWB is all about delivering data with minimal disruptions and lightning-fast response times. It relies on advanced wireless technologies to connect remote sites to the core network, ensuring that data gets through when it matters most.
Reliable wireless also brings greater flexibility to the environment, while also potentially reducing costs and installation times to connect fixed assets. Fiber isn’t available everywhere and can be prohibitively expensive to deploy and maintain.
Cisco URB in Use
One very common use for Cisco UEB is automated vehicles (AGVs) - these might be automated vehicles in a container port or large trucks in a mine site.
There are though many more uses, and CURWB usually falls into the following use cases:
- Connectivity where fibre isn’t available or is too costly
- Connectivity for moving assets
- Tele-Remote Operations in mines and Ports
- Automated Guided vehicles(AGVs) and cobots
