Freedom With Care, Supported by the Network

Technology in aged care should improve the lives of residents and staff alike. Wi-Fi is central, along with the networks that support the business.

Residents tell our teams that in-room Wi-Fi makes an enormous difference: talking with loved ones, browsing the internet and watching Netflix on a smart TV. Many sites are brick-built, and Wi-Fi also keeps staff connected with voice and location tracking so they can call for help when it's needed.

Use Cases

What the Network Needs to Do

Corporate Laptops

Reliable access for staff work devices across every building.

BYOD Access

Internet access for staff, residents, visitors and clinicians.

Voice Over Wi-Fi

Smartphones replacing DECT, with barcode readers for medication management, phone lists, apps and duress.

Clinical Devices

Ready for patient monitors, wearables and other biomedical technology as care evolves.

Aged Care Managed Service

Providers run six to 100 sites with no local ICT staff. Our monitoring and alerting catch issues early, often before anyone notices.

Aged Care Wi-Fi and Nurse Call: Common Questions

What Wi-Fi does nurse call integration need?

When nurse call alerts go to staff Wi-Fi handsets or smartphones, the Wi-Fi has to be designed to voice grade, not just for browsing. That means strong coverage from two access points everywhere staff walk, including resident bathrooms with the doors closed, so calls and alerts follow staff without dropping as they move between rooms.

Why is Wi-Fi so hard in aged care buildings?

Many aged care sites are brick-built or have been extended over the years. Brick and concrete walls absorb far more signal than plasterboard, and heritage brick can need roughly twice as many access points. A survey before installation shows where the access points really need to go.

Can residents, staff and clinical devices share one network?

Yes, with the right design. We separate resident, guest, staff and clinical traffic so residents can stream and video call family while staff handsets, nurse call and clinical devices keep priority and stay secure.

Can the Wi-Fi also locate staff or residents?

Yes. Location-grade Wi-Fi supports staff duress tags and asset tracking. It needs more access points placed in specific patterns, so it is best planned at design time rather than added later.

Can IPTel manage the network after installation?

Yes. Our aged care managed service monitors the Wi-Fi and network, fixes issues before staff notice, and gives you one number to call.
