Wi-Fi Surveys at the Core of Every Successful Install

Wi-Fi has become critical to so many businesses that leaving its design to chance is too big a risk. IPTel has designed hundreds of large and critical sites, so your Wi-Fi design is in safe hands.

We take you from first principles to a design that supports your business, whatever your use case: office, warehouse, university, hospital or any other site. Our tagline says it all: Wi-Fi that Works!

Designed for Your Environment

Wi-Fi for Every Kind of Site

Aged Care

Mobile staff with tablets and smartphones, residents streaming and video calling family, plus voice and location tracking.

Hospital and Clinical

Guest access, corporate laptops, iEMR, voice, duress and location, biomedical and IoT, with reliability above all.

Hotels and Universities

Lots of people wanting great Wi-Fi, from hotel rooms to high-spec teaching spaces.

Industrial

Ruggedised IoT for mining, utilities, transport and manufacturing, with careful AP mounting and vehicle automation standards.

Retail and Warehouse

Store Wi-Fi that enhances the customer experience and warehouse Wi-Fi ready for robotics and automation.

Stadiums

Changing seating, crowd densities and tricky mounting points, handled with stadium-specific access points.

Our Survey Process

Three Stages to Wi-Fi That Works

We design in two stages, then validate once the network is installed and tuned.

Stage 1

Predictive Design

Floor plans are scaled in Ekahau, walls are drawn with the right attenuation, APs are placed and simulated, and a set of checks confirms density and placement. For accuracy we like to sample real wall attenuation on site.

Stage 2

Pre-Deployment Survey

Battery-powered "AP-on-a-stick" rigs, using the exact AP model, test the design on site before any cabling. The design is then refined to match the real building fabric. Recommended for hospitals, warehouses and industrial sites.

Stage 3

Deployment Validation

Once the network is installed and tuned, a walk-round survey of 100% of operational areas confirms it performs to design, with primary and secondary heatmaps across 6, 5 and 2.4 GHz.

Wi-Fi Surveys: Common Questions

What is a predictive wireless survey?

A predictive Wi-Fi survey models your floor plans, wall materials and user needs in Ekahau to work out how many access points you need and where they go, before anything is installed. It sets the budget and the cabling plan for the project.

Is a predictive survey enough on its own?

A predictive design is a model. We recommend testing it on site with a temporary access point before cabling, because real walls are often heavier than the drawings suggest. Fixing a design on paper costs far less than adding access points after installation.

What types of Wi-Fi survey does IPTel do?

Predictive designs, onsite pre-deployment surveys, post-installation validation surveys to prove the network meets the design, and diagnostic surveys to find the cause of existing Wi-Fi problems.

How is the right Wi-Fi grade chosen?

The design is set by the least capable, most important device on the network. Laptops need data grade, Wi-Fi phones and scanners need voice grade, and location tracking or patient monitoring need denser designs again. We agree the grade with you first, so the survey answers the right question.

Do you survey outside Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne?

Yes. Our engineers survey sites across Australia, including regional, mining and remote locations.
